To ensure a high-quality telepresence experience, the Awabot Desktop App requires a functioning webcam on your computer. Your webcam feed is projected onto the robot’s screen, allowing the people you are visiting to see you clearly while you interact.
Requirements for best performance
For the most reliable connection and visual clarity, we recommend using the following hardware:
- Quality: High-definition (HD) webcam.
- Compatibility: Most built-in laptop cameras or UVC-compatible USB webcams (such as the Logitech C900 series).
- Environment: A well-lit space with a plain background to minimize distractions.
How to set up your webcam
- Connect your camera: Ensure your external webcam is plugged in or your laptop's built-in camera is active before launching the app.
- Open the Awabot App: Log in to your account.
- Check the preview: During the setup process, a local video preview will appear.
- Adjust positioning: Center your face in the frame and ensure you are not backlit.
- Confirm visibility: Once you can see yourself clearly, click I look great! to proceed to the robot lobby.
Troubleshooting camera issues
If your camera is not appearing or you see an error, follow these steps:
- Check permissions: Ensure your operating system and antivirus software have granted the Awabot App permission to access the camera.
- Close competing apps: Close other programs that may be using the webcam (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or FaceTime).
- Reset hardware: Disconnect and reconnect your USB webcam or restart your computer.
Note: Driving functionality and remote interaction depend on a continuous video feed. If your webcam is disconnected during a session, your experience may be interrupted.
